There are some subjects that you can feel are going to make an interesting image, the shot below is a great example The buildings has a pastel tone nicely contrasted against the gritty stone street and solid blue sky.
I created the file as a HDR using three exposures using photomatix and in photoshop added the sky from the underexposed shot to balance the tone of the sky. Once all the lens correction had been taken care of I made a few curves adjustment primarily adjusting the brightness of colours giving the whole image a pastel feel to complement the the buildings.

again, great use of HDR…some would have made the houses very bright, which would work I’m sure but this looks very natural to me!
