How did you make those thorns standout so nicely?
The image was back lit, so the sun was point towards me. As the hairs of the flower were very thin the light shine through them making them glow (?). The background is green so the hairs contrasted very well making them stand out even more. I also was using f8 which on this lens is one of the sharpest apertures making the focus very sharp.
All of these things combined together made them stand out.
The reason I shot into the sun was because it brought out a lot of colour in the spiders legs.
I hope that helps.
Remarkable macro shot, Ben! Thank you so much for explaining the lighting, background color, and the aperture.
My pleasure Amy, I was really needing a break photographing bees. I saw a nice flower and then noticed the spider.
Glad you liked the shot.
Great Macro, Ben! I love the little hairs on the plant. And I love close ups of spiders! (I just don’t want them in my house! haha) 😀
It is said you should have at least 1 spider in your house to keep it bug free or have a cat.
Glad you liked the shot Nic.
hmmm… well I don’t have a cat… I tend to squish any spiders I see in my home. I have one rule, no bugs in the house! I don’t squish bugs if I see them outside, in fact, I might take their picture. But I just can’t handle them in the house, I think I’m afraid they will bite my dog (or my husband, or me).
Great photo. Love the use of light in it.
