One Four Challenge; In My Room Black & White

The one four challenge is where you take one picture and over a month each week edit the picture in a different way.  At the end of the month you have four different images and four different interpretations of the image. You can read more about the challenge here.

I have said this a few times with the One Four Challenge, there is always a Black and white post in the series. This week I did take on a comment by Lynne Ayers who noted that the chair and the background needed a bit of separation. I wanted also to have a contrasted image and maybe a bit more grungy and gritty than last weeks, although keeping the chair smooth.

I took last week’s edit and created a virtual copy. I reset the image except for some cloning I did, to start with a blank slate. As with last week most of the adjustments were done with the gradient, radial and brush. First I converted the image to black and white using one of my Daguerreotype preset. I used a gradient on the background to darken the image as well are reducing the sharpness to soften the image hopefully creating some separation. I used an adjusted radial tool to tone the foreground and another to tone the chair.

I like how in this edit it feels as if the light is shining on the chair. The light feels quite directional like a light in the ceiling shining down cast the rest of the room into shadow.
