Orchid II

orchid-2

This is the second Orchid picture from the shoot two weeks ago. I have been meaning to edit the other two shots but life has a way to taking control sometimes.
This shot is framed closer focusing on the second flower. I used the Cyanotype toning again but this time I converted the image to black and white using a slightly different method.
I first converted the colour image to colour infrared and then converted to black and white using the channel mixer. This gave more detail to the step as it moved from a green colour to more yellow/orange. Once converted to black and white all the little details pop out of the stem.

I know some people don’t like the closeness of the crop but for this image i think it really works.

If you would like to share your thoughts on the image let me know them by using the comment box below.

  1. The details are stunning. Here the crop is effective as it really draws the viewer in. I’m not sure about the tint but it certainly achieves the objective. On balance I think it works well.

  2. so beautiful…love the contrast in colour and I do like the close crop…I’m wondering what the orchid would look like if it was more white…I do like sharp contrasts

    • Sharp contrast is always good i agree. The petals actually slightly darker in those shot. I was approaching from an angle that meant the petals were back lit less.
I could drop the saturation a little more making the white come through stronger.
